The Southern Regional Council on Educational Administration (SRCEA) is the only regional, non-profit organization for professionals in Educational Administration. The region is currently comprised of 14 states from Virginia in the northeast, to Missouri in the northwest, to Texas in the southwest, and to Florida in the southeast.

 

School principals, superintendents, professors, project coordinators, researchers, doctoral students, and other education professionals are invited to attend. The organization encourages collaboration across the region in terms of research and mentorship.

Things to Do While in Tuscaloosa

Randall Family Park and Trailhead

This community park is located at the Northern Riverwalk in the heart of Tuscaloosa. There are also public art displays, restrooms, a playground, and a pavilion with a picnic area. Great views of the Warrior River can be seen from multiple viewpoints along the trail. Overall, this route makes for a great family-friendly outing.

Bryant-Denny Stadium

Bryant-Denny Stadium was named in honor of two legends, President George H. Denny, who headed the University of Alabama in the 20th century, and Paul Bryant, the head coach. The stadium is widely recognized as the Crimson Tide school football team’s home stadium and the world’s eighth-largest football stadium. Bryant-Denny Stadium has a seating capacity of one hundred and one thousand, eight hundred and twenty-one. The legendary school football team has won over two hundred games here, and it was the venue for several significant games played by the team. Kentuck Art Festival

Kentuck has a rich 52-year history as a nationally known crossroads of creativity and community. The two-day festival has its roots in folk art and features 270+ artists, live music, spoken word, activities for children, folk and contemporary craft demonstrations, food trucks, and local craft brews. Featured in numerous publications, Kentuck Festival of the Arts was most recently recognized by Alabama Department of Tourism as one of the top-ten events to attend in Alabama in 2018 and by Alabama Magazine as one of the “Best of Bama 2022.” Kentuck has also been featured in Smithsonian Magazine, Southern Living, American Style Magazine, and National Geographic Traveler. In 2018, the Festival was named 5th in the nation (based on artists' self-reported sales) in the category of Classic and Contemporary Craft Shows by Sunshine Artists Magazine.

Paul W. Bryant Museum

In addition to the football stadium, there’s also the Paul W. Bryant Museum on campus. The museum is dedicated to the life and career of Paul W. Bryant, better known as “Bear” Bryant. The museum has tons of memorabilia from Coach Bryant’s time at Alabama, including trophies, awards, letters, and photos

Tuscaloosa Farmers' Market

Tuscaloosa Farmers Market is a market where local farmers come to display and sell their freshly harvested farm produce. The market is open from 7am to 12pm every Saturday, with several vendors offering a wide variety of commodities. You can shop for fresh vegetables, fruits, local cheeses, beef, baked foods, locally made traditional dishes, well-cut flowers, dairy items, freshly pressed juices, and more. Local Eats

- Dreamland BBQ is a must-visit for barbecue fans. The restaurant has been serving up some of the best barbecue in Alabama for over 60 years. The ribs are especially legendary – don’t leave without trying them! Their ribs and white bread are on the list of 100 Dishes to Eat in Alabama.

- Rama Jama’s is another great option for breakfast. The restaurant is known for its delicious, hearty breakfasts and Alabama memorabilia.

If seafood and steaks are more your thing, Chuck’s Fish is the place to go. The restaurant offers a wide variety of fresh seafood dishes, including a Fish of the Day, Stuffed Shrimp, and Sesame-Seared Tuna.

- Heritage House is the perfect spot for a coffee and snack break in the afternoon. They serve incredible house-made pastries (their cookies are absolute fire), and their coffee hits the spot when you need that caffeine fix

Museums

Alabama Museum of Natural History

The Transportation Museum is a free museum in Tuscaloosa, Alabama that tells the story of transportation and how it affected the development of Tuscaloosa. You’ll find multiple fixed exhibits, but they also show rotating exhibits. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It’s located along Jack Warner Parkway right next to the Tuscaloosa Public Library in what was once the Queen City Pool House.
